Hamad Medjedovic was unlucky in his first ATP final, he was defeated by Shapovalov, but he left a fantastic impression. However, he is not disappointed, because he knows that he has good years ahead of him.

“Overall a great week for me. I didn’t go in with a lot of expectations, because I haven’t been at the required level for a couple of months now. Then from match to match I got better and better. The finale? A tight match, Shapovalov played very well, especially on the return. Top level. Still, a good end to the season for me,” Medjedovic said.

Were there more good or bad things about your game that you will remember from the finals?

“There were more positive things. I know I didn’t have high expectations, but I believed I could have a good week. It could have been better in the final, but it is what it is.”

Did the delay in the start of the match affect you?

“It did not. I don’t think it affected Shapovalov either.”

You served well, but in the end you didn’t persevere, what happened?

“Yes. I served well. I really relied on my service because of the stomach virus that caught me. The key game was 4:4, then the break happened. Two mistakes and that’s it.“

Has a virus affected your game?

“I was struggling with a virus. I lacked a little energy. There were some nice moments in the final, although I knew I couldn’t sustain a closer exchange of points, as I could before the final.”

Now you will move up on the ATP list, how much does that mean to you?

“I know that I have progressed in the ATP list. Last year I was close to 102 and then I had bad luck and it was not as we imagined. Now I will continue to work hard to reach the goal,” concluded Medjedovic.
