Lajovic also referred to the importance of the tournament in Belgrade. The organization is excellent, and the Serbian tennis player especially praised .
“It’s easy to look at it through tradition, or rather how many tournaments there are to build that culture of tennis, that is a big undertaking. Kitzbuhel, Umag, Gstaad from the 250 series are tournaments with tradition. It is always in that period that a city focuses on it. Belgrade is a metropolis and cannot be compared to a small ski resort, but on the other hand, tennis is becoming more and more popular as a sport and everyone wants to come and watch the matches. This further contributes to the popularization of sports in Serbia. I hope this tournament is here to stay. Serbia deserves to have this kind of event, with this number of players. For such a small nation, this is of great importance. We should include challengers as well as other tournaments. I would like to praise Djordje Djokovic who is doing a fantastic job. He looks at things from the player’s perspective, but also from one of the fans. He wants everything to be at a high level. It’s not easy to organize all that, and I’m glad to play in Serbia and at home in Belgrade,” concluded Lajovic.
