After the draw, Djordje Djokovic, the tournament director, expressed his condolences to the families of the victims who died in a tragic accident in Novi Sad.
There will be no music in the arena during the Day of Mourning, and there will be no other fun activities.
Djordje Djokovic also addressed the comments related to Red Star and Partizan basketball teams, who had to move out of the Belgrade Arena into the “Aleksandar Nikolic” hall.
“I feel sorry that we got into a situation where Red Star and Partizan had to move from the Arena.” Nobody’s indifferent to that, I just talked about it with Dusan Lajovic. I know that it is not an ideal time to play the tournament right during the Euroleague season, because they had already set their schedule. If we had found out about the license earlier, we would definitely have entered the schedule by then. This would have avoided this unpleasant situation for everyone. However, from next year we will be in the schedule of the Arena. I hope Red Star and Partizan are not too angry about it, because this is the only facility in Belgrade that meets the ATP requirements for this kind of tournament,” said Djordje Djokovic, director of the “Belgrade Open” tournament.
The organizers of the tournament also spoke with the leading people of Partizan and explained the situation, that is, that there is no possibility of the matches being played in another venue.
“We spoke to Mr. Ostoja Mijailovic and Zeljko Obradovic the other day regarding the basketball game with Monaco. We really couldn’t do anything. Unfortunately, they had to move to the “Aleksandar Nikolic” hall.
