Djordje Djokovic, the Director of the Belgrade Open, spoke today about the long-term plans for the tournament in the Serbian capital.

There is no doubt that top-shelf tennis will be played under the roof of the Arena for many years to come.

“We will do everything so that tennis in Serbia occupies its legitimate place. We have a license for two years. Negotiations are ongoing, at the end of February we should know the decision, I believe that we will become co-owners and that we will keep the tournament in the next ten years. Yes, the license is Russian. This tournament used to be played in Russia, however, due to a combination of circumstances, it went to Tel Aviv, and then came to Belgrade. They have now found stability with us. They have trust in us, the license holders were present at the tournament. They are very grateful to us because we stepped in at a critical moment, not only for them but also for ATP. They gave us an event that truly resonated in the world. People are happy with how it all looks. I would like to improve everything in the following years, as we want. I am sure that we will succeed in this,” said Djordje Djokovic, the Director of the Belgrade Open tournament.

Djordje also referred to the Arena, where the tournament is played, including other details related to the license.

“We have all the required conditions in the Arena, as far as the court and entertainment content is concerned. We wish to have better-ranked players in the future, of course, to have as many domestic players as possible in the finals, as was the case now. We have to nurture domestic tennis and this license that we have. I am almost certain that we will manage to obtain it and that Belgrade will host this tournament for many years to come,” concluded Djokovic.
