Alex de Minor, the first seed at the Belgrade Open, has withdrawn from the tournament.
The Australian’s injury prevented him from playing in front of the Belgrade crowd – he was supposed to play tomorrow against the winner of the match between Wawrinka and Djere. As a replacement, as the “lucky winner”, Duje Ajdukovic entered the main draw.
“I’m very disappointed by having to retire due to a hip injury. I was looking forward to playing in Belgrade, I have spent time here. I’d like to thank the organizers of the tournament because the arena looks amazing. I hope to come back here next year”, De Minor said.
The Australian also pointed out that he will take with him good memories of Belgrade and that he likes the city.
It is also interesting that De Minor qualified for the Belgrade Open and earned the right to play after Djokovic’s withdrawal. Instead of Belgrade, the Australian’s last tournament of the season will be in Turin.
“I’m hoping to play here next year. Honestly, I’m sad that I had to cancel the tournament in Belgrade, because I was looking forward to playing here”, De Minor explained.
